A Few Words

About Us

Cabra Central National School is a co-educational School situated in a lovely rural setting outside Kingscourt, County Cavan.
We operate under Church of Ireland Patronage but we welcome pupils from all religious denominations and none.

We have three mainstream class teachers and a shared Special Education teacher based in Cabra. We offer a caring, family type learning atmosphere. A low pupil teacher ratio enables all within our care to realise their full potential. Our classrooms are bright and spacious and we are fortunate to have a large outdoor play area with separate play zones for each class grouping. We operate a book rental scheme and have no uniform to keep costs down.

We have a vibrant Parents’ Association. They organise cake sales, table quizzes, Beetle Drives and fêtes to help us purchase educational resources and to supplement the cost of tours throughout the year.

History of the school

The current school is the result of an amalgamation which took place in 1978 when the Church of Ireland schools in Shercock, Kingscourt and Carrickmacross were united in the current location in Kingscourt. Throughout the years we have welcomed pupils from the Meath, Cavan, Monaghan and Louth areas. The school is serviced by two buses and is within walking distance of Kingscourt, crèches and after school facilities.
